Jury Rationale

Best Documentary under 25 Minutes
„Michael and his Dragon“ Dir.: Briar March

The short film opens up a startling world in the shortest of time and forcefully narrates from the inner perspective of a young U.S. soldier: in the Iraq War, he is confronted with death and killing for the first time.
Michael and his Dragon captivates via its consistent film language. In memorable black-and-white pictures, the film converges on the traumatized inner life of a war veteran through the tattoos of its protagonist. Music and sound design optimally support the attractiveness of this film.
An impressive anti-war film told in six minutes. Best wishes to Briar March, who shot and edited the film himself!
